Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Two graduates of Watertown High School (WHS) are preparing to take the stage in major roles for the South Dakota State University (SDSU) Theater Department's upcoming production of "The Diary of Anne Frank."
Mattisyn McDonnell, a 2022 WHS graduate and a sophomore Theater Major at SDSU, will star as Anne Frank in her first major role at the university. Joining her is Gerrit VonEye, a 2024 WHS graduate and a senior Theater and Music Major, who will be starring as Anne’s father, Otto Frank.
"The Diary of Anne Frank" is described as an impassioned drama that captures the challenging, claustrophobic realities of a young girl, her family, and others hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic. The play explores their fear, hope, laughter, and grief as they navigate their daily existence in hiding. The production notes indicate that the play contains mature language and themes.
Performances will be held in the Oscar Larson Theatre on the SDSU campus. Showtimes are scheduled for October 16, 17, and 18 at 7:00 p.m., with a matinee performance on October 19 at 2:00 p.m.
Tickets for the performances can be purchased online. The Diary of Anne Frank | South Dakota State University - Multi
