Free Fishing Poles Now Available at Watertown’s Lions Park Through New Community Partnership

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Visitors to Lions Park now have access to free fishing poles thanks to a donation from Fishing for Life and a new partnership between the Watertown Police Department and Watertown Park and Recreation.


Two pole racks have been installed on the north side of the Lions Park building. Each pole comes equipped with basic tackle, allowing anglers of all ages to fish without needing their own equipment. Users must bring their own bait, and the Police Department asks that poles be returned to the rack when finished so others can enjoy them.

The initiative is designed to make fishing more accessible for families, youth, and anyone spending time at the park.


Early community reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. Several residents shared appreciation on social media, including one family who said the borrowed poles allowed them to continue fishing after their own rod broke.


Others praised the idea as a “blessing” for the community and encouraged responsible use so the program can continue.


The Police Department says the poles are available to anyone visiting Lions Park and hopes the new amenity encourages more outdoor recreation throughout the summer.
