Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Area children will have multiple opportunities to explore the arts this summer through free programming at the Goss Opera House, including a one-day Passport to the Arts Day Camp and two weeks of Missoula Children’s Theatre productions.
The summer schedule begins with the Passport to the Arts Day Camp on Wednesday, June 24, from 1 to 5 p.m. The camp is open to students entering kindergarten through sixth grade and will take place at the Goss Opera House in downtown Watertown.
The afternoon program is designed to introduce students to cultures from around the world through hands-on art projects, crafts, food tastings, and dance activities.
Organizers say the camp encourages creativity and cultural exploration in a welcoming environment.
Later in the summer, students will be able to take the stage during two separate weeks of Missoula Children’s Theatre, with all registered participants guaranteed a role in each production at no cost.
Auditions for the first performance, Beauty Lou and the Country Beast, are scheduled for Monday, August 3, at 1 p.m. Rehearsals will run August 3 through August 7, with performances set for Friday, August 7, at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
The second production, Cinderella, will begin with auditions on Monday, August 8, at 1 p.m. Rehearsals will be held August 10 through August 14, followed by performances on Friday, August 14, at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Both theatre programs are open to students entering grades one through twelve. Rehearsals will take place in afternoon sessions between 1 and 3 p.m. and/or 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., depending on casting needs. Opportunities are also available for students interested in behind-the-scenes roles, including assistant director positions.
All Passport to the Arts programming is offered free of charge, made possible through support from the Watertown Area Community Foundation and local donors. Snacks and all materials are included.
Space for each program is limited, and advance registration is encouraged. Families may also inquire about waitlist options if sessions fill.
