Governor Rhoden Awards Over $5.8 Million for South Dakota Infrastructure Projects

Northeast Radio SD News – South Dakota - Governor Larry Rhoden has announced the allocation of more than $5.8 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to support four major infrastructure projects across the state. The grants, stemming from the October 1, 2025, application cycle, are designed to bolster essential services and improve the quality of life for South Dakota residents.


“These investments help ensure South Dakota communities have the essential infrastructure they need to grow and thrive,” Governor Rhoden stated. He emphasized that by prioritizing water and wastewater improvements, the state is actively strengthening public health and protecting vital natural resources.


Local Impact and Project Details

The funding is distributed among four cities to address critical utility and environmental needs:

·        Eagle Butte: Awarded $2,020,000 for a comprehensive water, wastewater, and storm sewer project.

·        Wessington: Received $2,020,000 specifically for wastewater improvement efforts.

·        Viborg: Granted $1,020,000 to fund upgrades to its wastewater treatment facility.

·        Springfield: Awarded $770,000 to support infrastructure developments on 11th, Ash, and Oak Streets.


GOED Commissioner Bill Even highlighted the economic importance of these grants, noting that strong infrastructure serves as the foundation for community and business success.

The Community Development Block Grant program is a federal initiative funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Administered locally by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), the program provides local governments with the necessary resources to complete projects that directly benefit low- to moderate-income individuals.
