Grant County Sheriff’s Office Moving to New Facility in Milbank, Open House Set for Thursday

Northeast Radio SD News – Milbank, SD - The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is officially relocating this week, transitioning operations from its longtime building to a newly constructed facility located at 518 Detention Street, just south of the courthouse parking lot.
The move will take place Monday through Wednesday, with limited services available during the transition. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the current building will remain open only for 24/7 law enforcement access and sex offender registry requirements until the move is complete.
Residents are asked to handle non‑urgent matters by phone when possible. The Sheriff’s Office can be reached at 605‑432‑5853, and emergencies should continue to be directed to 911.
Temporary Service Changes
Due to the relocation process:
· Pistol permits and
· Fingerprinting services will not be available until Thursday afternoon.
Open House Thursday Morning
The public is invited to tour the new facility during an open house on Thursday, August 20, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A ribbon cutting is scheduled for 10:15 a.m., followed by guided tours and opportunities to meet Sheriff’s Office staff.
Following the open house, the Sheriff’s Office will begin operating fully out of the new building.
In its announcement, the department emphasized its goal of maintaining service continuity during the move and encouraged residents to attend Thursday’s event.
“We hope to see you at the open house,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
