Groton Man Dies Following Single-Vehicle Crash West of Webster

Northeast Radio SD News - Webster, SD - A 73-year-old Groton, South Dakota man has died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash that occurred on U.S. Highway 12, five miles west of Webster.


The crash took place at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025, near mile marker 337.


Preliminary information released by the South Dakota Highway Patrol, an agency of the Department of Public Safety, indicates that the driver of a 2017 Toyota Rav 4 was traveling on U.S. Highway 12 when his vehicle left the roadway, entered the south ditch, and struck a power line pole.


The driver was initially brought to a hospital in Aberdeen with severe, life-threatening injuries. The Highway Patrol confirmed that the man succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital on Sunday, November 2nd. The driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.


The driver's name was released Monday morning: 73-year-old John Wesley Lowary of Groton, SD.


The crash remains under investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
