Habitat for Humanity’s ‘Timmy the Traveling Toilet’ Fundraiser Brings Laughs and Local Support to Codington County

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Habitat for Humanity has launched a uniquely hilarious fundraising campaign in Codington County, and it is catching residents completely by surprise. In a recent broadcast on Northeast Radio SD, Dana Bass and Alissa Bauman of Habitat for Humanity detailed their newest initiative: “Timmy the Traveling Toilet.”

What is “Timmy the Traveling Toilet”?

Timmy is a traveling toilet painted in Habitat for Humanity’s signature lime green and blue colors. The premise of the fundraiser is simple, humorous, and designed to generate both laughs and critical funding for the organization’s housing projects.

The organization currently has two “Timmys” in circulation and is hoping to see one traveling among residential homes and the other making the rounds at local businesses. To participate, community members have three main options:

Send Timmy	$25	Have the painted toilet placed in the yard of a neighbor, family member, or friend.
Move Timmy	$25	Once Timmy arrives in your yard, pay this fee to pass him along to a new destination.
Toilet Insurance	$35	Ensure that Timmy the Toilet never makes a return visit to your yard.

More Than Just a Traveling Toilet

While Timmy is generating laughs, the funds he raises go toward serious community needs. Habitat for Humanity helps families that need affordable housing in Codington County. Because construction costs are high, assisting families has become more challenging without creative fundraisers like this one.

Aside from the toilet fundraiser, Habitat for Humanity continues to work on several other community projects:

·         Home Builds: The organization focuses on building one home per year. They team up with students from Lake Area Tech College who provide hands-on building assistance every day.

·         A Brush with Kindness: This program assists families with home improvement projects they might not be able to handle themselves. Volunteers step in to help paint decks, build wheelchair ramps, and repair screen doors.

·         Upcoming Events: Habitat for Humanity will be hosting a Dueling Pianos event on January 17th at Second Street Station to bring some winter entertainment to the community.
