Hamlin County Sheriff Seeks Owner of Roaming Dog Near Castlewood

Northeast Radio SD News - Castlewood, SD - The Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the owner of a dog that has been loose in the countryside for several days.
The dog has been sighted approximately four miles northeast of Castlewood, near the intersection of 181st Street and 463rd Avenue.
According to a release from the Sheriff's Office, the dog is friendly but appears to be afraid of people. Personnel from the Glacial Lakes Humane Society and Happy Tails K-9 Training have spent several hours in the area attempting to capture the animal safely. While the dog has taken treats and shown curiosity toward the rescuers, it has not yet trusted them enough to be secured with a leash.
The initial call regarding the animal complaint was logged on October 4, 2025, at 11:44 a.m.
The Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone with information regarding the dog or its owner contact them directly at 605-783-3232. The agency expressed thanks for any help the public can provide.
