Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Hy-Vee is activating a comprehensive community support effort across all its store locations to assist families as local food banks prepare for a projected record increase in need over the coming weeks.
The initiative focuses on providing low-cost meals and offering convenient ways for customers to donate essential food items.
Low-Cost Family Meal Program
From Monday, November 3, through Friday, November 7, every Hy-Vee store with hot food service will offer a special low-cost meal available from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
· Free Meals for Children: Children ages 12 and under will receive the featured meal for free.
· Affordable Adult Meals: The same meal will be available for all others for $3.
Meals can be purchased for dine-in or to-go. The menu for the week is as follows:
Date | Featured Meal |
Monday, Nov. 3 | Baked Potato with Pulled Pork |
Tuesday, Nov. 4 | Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Salad, and Garlic Bread |
Wednesday, Nov. 5 | Chicken and Noodles with Mashed Potatoes |
Thursday, Nov. 6 | Chili and a Cinnamon Roll |
Friday, Nov. 7 | Sesame or Orange Chicken Rice Bowl OR (in stores without HyChi) Two Chicken Tenders, Mashed Potatoes, and Corn |
Donation Bundles and Recipe Sharing
To directly aid local pantries, Hy-Vee stores are now offering $5 and $10 food bank donation bundles for customers to purchase. These pre-packed bags contain items most requested by food pantries, such as canned vegetables, pasta sauce, canned proteins, and cereal. Stores will deliver the purchased donation bags to their local food pantry daily to help manage inventory levels.
In an additional effort to help families stretch their budgets, Hy-Vee will share recipes on its social media channels during the coming weeks. These recipes will feature meals that cost $3 or less per serving, using products highlighted in Hy-Vee’s weekly ads.
Commitment to Hunger Relief
This community campaign supplements Hy-Vee's recent substantial contributions to hunger relief. The company recently donated $100,000 to its Feeding America partner food banks across its operating region to help maintain adequate inventory.
In a separate move to assist families using food assistance benefits, Hy-Vee donated $25,000 to DoorDash's initiative to waive delivery and service fees for those customers. These donations are in addition to the over $70 million in in-kind food donations Hy-Vee provided throughout the past year.
Anna Stoermer, Executive Vice President, Chief Merchandising & Retail Officer for Hy-Vee, Inc., emphasized the company's commitment. “We want to support the communities that support our stores, which is why we are doing everything we can to make sure no one goes hungry during these uncertain times,” Stoermer stated.
