Northeast Radio SD News – Brookings County, SD - The South Dakota Highway Patrol has released the identity of the woman killed in a two-vehicle crash that occurred one mile south of Bruce on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Sixta Erika Huerta Garcia, 48, of Brookings, S.D., was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision, which happened at approximately 6:05 a.m. at the intersection of SD Highway 30 and 471st Avenue.
Preliminary information from the Highway Patrol indicates Huerta Garcia was driving a 2007 Ford Edge northbound on 471st Avenue. At the same time, a 2023 GMC Sierra driven by Jody Alan Weiss, 53, of Arlington, S.D., was traveling eastbound on 204th Street.
The preliminary investigation found that Weiss failed to stop at the stop sign as he approached the intersection, resulting in a collision between the GMC Sierra and the Ford Edge. Both vehicles left the roadway and came to rest in the northeast ditch.
Weiss sustained minor injuries in the crash and was wearing a seat belt. The Highway Patrol notes that Huerta Garcia's seat belt use is still under investigation.
