Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce has announced a bold new direction for one of the region’s most anticipated summer traditions. Cookin’ on Kampeska returns to Stokes-Thomas Lake City Park from July 16–18, 2026, featuring a “music-first” festival format that moves beyond its traditional BBQ competition roots to offer a bigger, more vibrant community experience.
A Fresh Festival Experience
This year’s event has been reimagined to prioritize live performances, family activities, and community connection. While the traditional BBQ competitions are being retired, the festival will still offer BBQ and cooking demonstrations, along with bingo, arts-and-crafts vendors, and a “touch-a-truck” experience featuring boats and UTVs.
“While the format has evolved, the heart of the event remains—bringing people together for a fun, family-friendly weekend at the lake,” the Chamber stated in their announcement.
The Musical Lineup
The weekend is anchored by three nights of high-energy performances designed to keep the crowd dancing:
· Thursday, July 16: The event kicks off with Thursday Night Live, featuring the high-energy Midwest rock band IV Play. This opening night remains free to the public, with gates and vendors opening at 4:00 PM.
· Friday, July 17: Gates open early at 1:00 PM for an afternoon of local and regional music. At 8:00 PM, headliner 3 Hour Download will take the stage, performing nostalgic hits from the ’90s and 2000s, ranging from Blink-182 to the Goo Goo Dolls.
· Saturday, July 18: Following a full day of family fun—including foam parties and pedal tractor pulls—the SD Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band Ivory will close out the festival at 8:00 PM. Known for their tight harmonies and classic rock hits, Ivory has been a Midwest institution since the 1970s.
