Lake County crash near Ramona kills Astoria man identified as Alan Lavern Anderson

Northeast Radio SD News – Lake County, SD - Authorities have released the name of the man killed in a single‑vehicle vs. pedestrian crash northeast of Ramona.


The South Dakota Department of Public Safety says Alan Lavern Anderson, a 70‑year‑old man from Astoria, died in the crash, which happened at 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9 at the intersection of 223rd Street and 451st Avenue, about two miles northeast of Ramona.

According to preliminary information, a 17‑year‑old male from Nunda was driving a 2014 GMC Sierra westbound on 223rd Street when Anderson was working on a Cub Cadet riding lawnmower in the roadway. The lawnmower had become separated from a tailgate‑mounted carrier. The GMC struck both the mower and Anderson. The teen driver was not injured and was wearing a seat belt.


Anderson sustained fatal injuries at the scene. Seat belt use does not apply to the lawnmower.


The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate. Officials note that all information released at this stage is preliminary. The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
