Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Local families looking to introduce their children to the “fastest game on earth” have a golden opportunity next month. Prairie Lakes Ice Arena, in partnership with USA Hockey, is hosting a Try Hockey For Free clinic on Saturday, March 7th.
The event is designed to give children a pressure-free introduction to the sport without the financial commitment usually associated with starting hockey.
Event Details
· When: Saturday, March 7th
· Time: 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM
· Where: Prairie Lakes Ice Arena
· Cost: Completely Free
Who Can Join?
The clinic is specifically tailored for children ages 4 to 9. Organizers emphasize that this is a “new skaters” event—no prior ice experience is required. Whether your child has never laced up a pair of skates or is just beginning to find their balance, they are welcome to join.
What to Expect
Parents don’t need to worry about the logistics of heavy bags and expensive equipment. The program provides all necessary gear and on-site professional instruction. Participants will:
· Learn basic skating techniques and fundamental hockey skills.
· Work directly with friendly, certified local coaches.
· Experience the thrill of being on the ice in a safe, supportive environment.
“Our goal is to get kids excited about being active and trying something new,” says the event literature. “By removing the barriers of cost and equipment, we hope to show every child in our community how much fun hockey can be.”
How to Register
Space is often limited for these sessions to ensure a safe coach-to-player ratio. Families interested in participating are encouraged to visit www.tryhockeyforfree.com to sign up and find more information about the day’s schedule. Watertown Lakers on Facebook
