Northeast Radio SD News – Springfield, SD - A juvenile reported missing in Springfield on Tuesday evening was found deceased early Wednesday morning in the Missouri River, according to the Bon Homme County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities received the initial report on July 14 and began a joint investigation with the Springfield Police Department. During the search, investigators determined the juvenile had likely entered the Missouri River near the Springfield Marina.

Multiple agencies responded to assist, including the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, which deployed side‑scan sonar to examine the riverbed. The sonar captured an image believed to be a person, prompting officials to request assistance from the Yankton County Search and Rescue dive team.

At 1:20 a.m. on July 15, dive team members recovered the juvenile’s body near the fast‑water boat launch at the Springfield Marina.

The sheriff’s office reports that no foul play is suspected, and there are no concerns for community safety at this time. Names are being withheld pending notification of family members.

Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. on July 14 and may have seen or heard anything relevant to the case to contact the Bon Homme County Sheriff’s Office at 605‑589‑3942.

The investigation remains ongoing.
