Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Dakota Prairies Chapter #394 is bringing its annual Block Kids® Competition to Watertown on February 7, offering local elementary students a hands-on introduction to the world of construction and engineering.

The event, which is open to students in grades K–6, challenges participants to use building blocks to design and construct projects. The competition aims to foster interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and highlight the diverse career paths available within the construction industry.

Event Details

The competition will take place at 2813 Piper Avenue. Registration begins at 9:00 AM, with the building portion of the event starting promptly at 10:00 AM. Participants will compete for prizes across grade levels, with cash awards for the top three overall finishers.

Sponsorship Opportunities

To ensure the event remains accessible and provides high-quality rewards for participants, NAWIC is seeking support from local businesses. All donations are tax-deductible and go directly toward funding prizes and event operations.

Businesses can choose from three sponsorship tiers:

·        Level 1: Building Buddy ($100) – Includes company logo placement at the snack and prize stations, logo items in student prize bags, and the opportunity to provide a judge for the competition.

·        Level 2: The Creative Crew ($300) – Includes all Level 1 benefits, plus company logo placement on event signage and social media recognition.

·        Level 3: Super Structure Supporter ($500) – Includes all Level 2 benefits, plus a free event t-shirt, recognition in the Dakota Prairies newsletter, and the opportunity to present awards to the winners.

Building the Future Workforce

The Block Kids® Competition is a national initiative designed to engage the next generation of problem-solvers. By moving students away from screens and into a creative, hands-on environment, NAWIC aims to build confidence and spark a lifelong interest in how the world is built.

Business owners interested in sponsoring the event can scan the QR code provided on official event flyers or contact the NAWIC Dakota Prairies Chapter directly. Payments made by check should be made payable to NEF with “Dakota Prairies” included in the memo line.
