Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Codington County property owners have until Thursday, October 31, to submit the second half of their 2024 real estate and mobile home taxes without incurring a penalty.

The taxes, which were due in 2025, must be paid or postmarked by the deadline to avoid a 10% delinquency interest charge.

Property owners have several options for payment:

·        In-Person: Payments can be made at the Codington County Treasurer’s office, located on the first floor of the courthouse, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

·        By Mail: Payments sent through the mail must be postmarked no later than October 31. Officials advise mailing payments early, noting that the post office typically postmarks mail until 5:30 p.m. daily. Property owners who wish to receive a receipt must include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with their payment.

·        Online: Taxes can be paid online via the County Treasurer’s webpage. The direct payment link is www.govtechtaxpro.com/parceldetail.php?idCounty=42029.

o   Online payments involve a convenience fee paid to the service provider. For credit or debit card payments, a 3% fee is applied to the total payment.

o   The lowest fee option is an e-check payment, which costs $2.00 to pay all parcels in a single transaction. To access this rate, users must select "Electronic Check" in the Payment Information section during the checkout process.

Essential Reminders for Delinquent Payments and Office Hours

Property owners who failed to pay their first-half installment in April are reminded to contact the Treasurer’s Office at 605-882-6285 for the total payoff amount, as interest must be added to the delinquent first-half balance.

The Treasurer’s office also noted a change in public service hours this year, with the office now closing to the public at 4:00 p.m. due to ongoing issues with the new 605Drive motor vehicle system and staffing shortages. Officials apologized for the inconvenience and requested the public's continued patience.
