Pedestrian Dies in Fatal Crash Near Irene

Northeast News SD – Yankton County, SD - A pedestrian died Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle on SD Highway 46, approximately seven miles west of Irene.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred at 8:23 p.m. at mile marker 339. Preliminary information indicates that an eastbound 2022 Tesla, driven by a 37-year-old female from Sioux Falls, struck a 67-year-old male pedestrian from Yankton who was walking in the roadway.
The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. The driver and two passengers in the car, both 17-year-old females, were not injured.
The names of the individuals involved have not been released, pending notification of their families.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
