Pierre Man Indicted on Multiple Rape and Sexual Contact Charges Involving Children, Attorney General Says

Northeast Radio SD News – South Dakota - A Pierre man has been indicted on 11 felony charges, including five counts of First‑Degree Rape, in a case involving two victims under the age of 13, according to South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley.
A Hughes County Grand Jury indicted 33‑year‑old Jarrett High Bear on Wednesday. The charges include:
· Five counts of First‑Degree Rape, each carrying a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison and up to life
· Two counts of Fourth‑Degree Rape, each carrying up to 15 years in prison
· Three counts of Sexual Contact with a Child Under 16, each carrying a mandatory minimum of 10 years and up to 15 years
· One additional count of Sexual Contact with a Child Under 16, carrying up to 15 years
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the alleged crimes occurred between January 2018 and March 2026.
The Pierre Police Department investigated the case. The Attorney General’s Office and the Hughes County State’s Attorney’s Office will jointly prosecute.
High Bear is being held in the Hughes County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond. He is presumed innocent under the U.S. Constitution.
