Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Watertown Fire Rescue (WFR) responded to a structure fire on Friday evening after an outdoor grill ignited the exterior of a local home.

Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 8:13 PM on February 6, 2026, to a residence located at 1110 19th Street SW. While dispatchers established initial contact with the caller, they were unable to gather further details before units arrived. Early reports indicated visible flames on the home’s exterior and smoke showing from the structure.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers on the scene confirmed active fire conditions on the side of the house. Firefighting crews quickly initiated a fire attack while simultaneously conducting a primary search of the interior.

The blaze was brought under control within minutes. Firefighters confirmed that the primary search was completed shortly after, with all occupants accounted for. The homeowner was the sole occupant at the time of the fire and escaped without injury. WFR reported no injuries to civilians or emergency personnel.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire was a propane grill that had been left on. The heat from the grill ignited nearby materials on the exterior of the residence.

Watertown Fire Rescue responded to the incident with 10 personnel operating four units: Battalion 1, Engine 3, Engine 4, and Medic 3. Crews remained on the scene for just over an hour to perform overhaul operations and ensure the fire had not spread. The property was eventually turned back over to the homeowner.
