Registration Opens for Watertown Figure Skate Club Winter Session

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The Watertown Figure Skate Club (WFSC) has officially opened registration for its upcoming Learn to Skate USA winter session. The eight-week program, held at the Prairie Lakes Ice Arena, is designed to provide skaters of all ages and skill levels with a foundation in ice sports.


The winter session is scheduled to begin the first week of January, with start dates on either January 4 or January 6, depending on the specific class level. Organized under the Learn to Skate USA curriculum, the program offers specialized tracks ranging from introductory classes for toddlers to advanced technical training for competitive hopefuls.


Program Offerings

The winter schedule is divided into two primary blocks to accommodate various disciplines:


·        Tuesday Evenings (5:15 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.): Focuses on introductory levels, including Ice Explorers for ages 2.5 to 3, Snow Plow Sam for preschoolers, and Basic Skills 1–6 for skaters ages six and older. Adult lessons and introductory hockey skills are also held during this time.


·        Sunday Evenings (5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.): Dedicated to advanced skill sets, including Hockey 2–4 + Power, Freeskate/Aspire, Axel Class, and Ice Dance.

The hockey curriculum is notable for its endorsement by USA Hockey. It features instruction from WFSC staff alongside experienced North American Hockey League (NAHL) players, focusing on agility, speed, and balance.


Registration Details

Prospective participants are encouraged to register early, as the club anticipates high demand for the limited spots available. The registration deadline is set for December 26 at 5:00 p.m. sharp.


Current members can enroll through their existing accounts under the “Contract Ice” section. New members must create an account and purchase a Learn to Skate membership before selecting their classes. Learn to Skate – Watertown Figure Skate Club


Community Impact

As a cornerstone of local winter recreation, the WFSC provides more than 12 hours of ice time per week to its members, along with opportunities for private lessons, clinics, and competitions. The upcoming session marks an optimistic start to the 2026 season, fostering confidence and fitness for Watertown residents through skating.
