Roberts County Traffic Stop Leads to Meth Seizure, Two Arrests Near Sisseton

Northeast Radio SD News – Sisseton, SD - A routine traffic stop in Roberts County turned into a narcotics investigation late Sunday night, resulting in the seizure of suspected methamphetamine and the arrest of two individuals, according to the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred on September 1, when Deputy Sudbeck initiated a stop for a traffic violation. During the encounter, the deputy observed “several indicators” that suggested possible criminal activity. The Sheriff’s Office said Sudbeck relied on his training and experience and continued investigating.
Deputy Sudbeck requested assistance from Sisseton‑Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Police Officer Lance Haug and K9 Grayz. After K9 Grayz gave a positive indication for narcotics, officers searched the vehicle and located approximately 8.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, syringes, and $636 in cash.
Kyle Robert Jeffers, of Wheaton, Minnesota — who the Sheriff’s Office says has ties to the Sisseton area — and his passenger were arrested on charges including Possession of a Controlled Substance and Distribution of a Controlled Drug, along with additional drug‑related offenses.
Investigators allege Jeffers has been a source of methamphetamine in the Wheaton, Browns Valley, and Sisseton areas “for some time,” based on information developed through ongoing law enforcement efforts.
While the street value of the seized methamphetamine is estimated in the hundreds of dollars, the Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the true cost of meth is measured in “addiction, neglected children, lost jobs, crime, emergency calls, jail stays, and communities left dealing with the aftermath.”
The agency praised the proactive work of Deputy Sudbeck, Officer Haug, and K9 Grayz, noting that drug enforcement requires cooperation across city, county, tribal, and state jurisdictions.
All individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation remains ongoing.
