SDDOT Chip Seal Projects Begin July 27 Across Eastern South Dakota, Including Clark County Highways

Northeast Radio SD News – Clark County, SD - The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will begin multiple asphalt surface treatment projects on Monday, July 27, with Clark County among the locations slated for chip seal work across central and eastern South Dakota.

Crews will start on S.D. Highway 45 from Miller to U.S. Highway 212, then move through additional routes in Beadle, Buffalo, Clark, Hand, Hyde, and Spink counties as conditions allow.

Project Routes Affecting the Region

SDDOT says the following highway segments are included in the $4.5 million chip seal project:

·        S.D. Highway 45 from Miller to U.S. Highway 212

·        S.D. Highway 34 / S.D. Highway 47 from Fort Thompson to Stephan

·        U.S. Highway 14 shoulders from Miller to Wessington

·        S.D. Highway 28 from west of Carpenter to S.D. Highway 25 (Clark County area)

·        S.D. Highway 37 in Huron from 21st Street to 33rd Street

·        S.D. Highway 20 from Highway 37 to Highway 25

The work includes chip sealing, brooming, fog sealing, and installation of permanent pavement markings once segments are completed.

During active construction, traffic will be controlled by flaggers and a pilot car. Drivers should expect delays of about 15 minutes and watch for loose rock and fresh oil following chip seal application.

The prime contractor for the project is Bituminous Paving, Inc. of Ortonville, Minnesota. The overall completion date is Friday, Aug. 28, 2026.
