SDDOT Chip Seal Projects to Impact Highways in Aberdeen, Webster, Bowdle and Northeast South Dakota

Northeast Radio SD News – South Dakota - The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will begin a series of asphalt surface treatment projects on Monday, Aug. 3, affecting multiple highway segments in Brown, Day, Edmunds, Faulk, McPherson, and Potter counties.

Crews will start work on S.D. Highway 25 from Webster to one mile west of Roslyn, then move through additional routes as conditions allow.

Highway Segments Included

According to SDDOT, the following routes are part of the chip seal project:

·         S.D. Highway 25 from Webster to one mile west of Roslyn

·         S.D. Highway 20 from east of Tolstoy to the intersection with S.D. Highway 45

·         U.S. Highway 12 shoulders from east of Aberdeen to Bath

·         S.D. Highway 45 from north of U.S. Highway 212 to the north intersection with S.D. Highway 20

·         S.D. Highway 47 from Bowdle to Eureka

Traffic will be controlled by flaggers and a pilot car during active work hours. Drivers should expect delays of about 15 minutes and watch for loose rock and fresh oil following chip seal application.

Additional work will include brooming, applying a fog seal, and installing permanent pavement markings once segments are completed.

Contractor and Timeline

The prime contractor for the $3.8 million project is Jensen Rock & Sand, Inc. of Mobridge. The overall completion date is Friday, Sept. 25, 2026.
