Sioux Falls Musician Jon Baumgartner of Tuff Roots Recovering in ICU After Motorcycle Crash Involving Drunk Driver
Northeast Radio SD News – Sioux Falls, SD - A friend of Northeast Radio SD and musician with the band Tuff Roots of Sioux Falls, Jon Baumgartner, is recovering in a Sioux Falls ICU after a devastating crash on September 15.
According to a fundraiser organized by family friend Mary Osen, Jon was riding his motorcycle in Sioux Falls when he was struck head‑on by a drunk driver traveling the wrong way on a one‑way street. The driver reportedly had no lights on and no insurance at the time of the crash.
Jon underwent more than three hours of emergency surgery and is expected to remain in the ICU for at least five days. Doctors are monitoring brain swelling before they can fully assess his long‑term recovery.
Osen, who has known the family for over 30 years, describes Jon as a devoted husband, “girl dad,” brother, son, grandson, and friend to many. He is also a talented musician, upholsterer, and the primary earner for his family.
“In addition to your prayers, I am asking for funds to help reduce the burden of medical expenses for him and his family,” Osen wrote. “Your donation will ease some of the trauma this family is suffering right now, and will enable them to focus all their energy on Jon’s healing.”
