Sioux Falls-Omaha Football Crossover Matchups Announced for 2026-27

Northeast Radio SD News – South Dakota - High school football fans in the Sioux Falls metro area can look forward to some heavy-hitting interstate action over the next two seasons.

The South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA), in a joint announcement with the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA), has officially finalized five non-conference “crossover” games between Class 11AAA powerhouses and premier programs from the Omaha metro area.

The announcement came on Wednesday morning, timed to coincide with Nebraska’s statewide football schedule release. While the full 2026 South Dakota football schedules are still being finalized, the SDHSAA moved early to confirm these specific marquee matchups.

A New Chapter for 11AAA

The scheduling partnership is the result of months of collaboration between the two state associations. The goal is to provide South Dakota’s largest schools with high-caliber non-conference competition while easing the scheduling burden for Class 11AAA athletic directors.

“By removing unnecessary state-level restrictions... we are standing up for freedom,” Governor Larry Rhoden noted earlier this week regarding state policy, but for the SDHSAA, the focus is on a different kind of freedom—the freedom to find competitive matchups that test the best athletes in the region.

SDHSAA Executive Director Dan Swartos expressed gratitude for the collaboration, noting that while not every requested matchup could be fulfilled in this cycle, the partnership represents “meaningful progress" for both states.

The Matchups

The following games are confirmed for the 2026 season. In 2027, the matchups will remain the same on the concurrent Friday, with the home and away sites flipped.
