South Dakota DLR to Host Cybersecurity Training for Watertown Businesses Protecting Employee Data

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation (DLR) will host its next Workforce Knowledge Series Session on Thursday, Aug. 13, focusing on cybersecurity practices that help businesses safeguard employee information.
The virtual Session, titled “Guarding the Gate: Cybersecurity Essentials for Protecting Employee Data,” begins at 11:30 a.m. CDT (10:30 a.m. MDT).
DLR says the training is designed to help employers understand the risks associated with storing and managing worker data, as well as the legal responsibilities businesses face when handling sensitive information.

· How to respond to a cybersecurity incident

Featured Presenter
The Session will be led by Dr. Tyler Flaagan, Associate Professor at Dakota State University’s Beacom College of Computer and Cyber Sciences and Director of the Deep Red Lab within DSU’s MadLabs®.
Dr. Flaagan is also a Senior Technical Mentor for the U.S. Cyber Team. His background includes work as a Red Team Operator for the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic, supporting Department of Defense programs and training cyber defenders during Exercise Cyber Shield.
He holds a Ph.D. in Cyber Operations and is an accomplished capture‑the‑flag competitor, with wins at MetaCTF (Wild West Hackin’ Fest), OpenSOC (DEF CON), and SANS NetWars.
How to Join
Participants must register online. After registering, attendees will receive emails with login instructions for Premier Virtual. On the day of the event, users can access the Session through Microsoft Teams, either via the app or a web browser.
DLR recommends updating the Teams app beforehand and ensuring a stable internet connection. If slides do not appear during the Session, attendees may need to leave and rejoin or switch between the app and browser.
