Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The South Dakota Highway Patrol has announced it will conduct sobriety checkpoints across 16 counties in April, including several counties right here in the northeast region.
The monthly checkpoints, intended to actively discourage impaired driving, will be set up in Codington, Roberts, and Beadle counties, among others, across the state. Additional checkpoints will take place in Bennett, Davison, Hutchinson, Jerauld, Lawrence, Lincoln, Lyman, Meade, Minnehaha, Moody, Pennington, Stanley, and Yankton counties.
The South Dakota Office of Highway Safety funds these statewide efforts. The checkpoints will be conducted by the South Dakota Highway Patrol, working in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies in the respective counties.
State officials are taking this opportunity to remind all motorists never to drink and drive, regardless of whether a checkpoint is scheduled in their immediate area.
“Drivers who have been drinking are encouraged to designate a sober driver or use commercial or public transportation,” the Department of Public Safety noted in their release.
Both the Office of Highway Safety and the Highway Patrol operate under the umbrella of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
