South Dakota Wins Permanent Injunction, $34K Penalty Against Patriot Warranty Co-Owner

Northeast Radio SD News – South Dakota - South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced Friday that the state has secured a permanent injunction and $34,579 in civil penalties and attorney’s fees against Jack C. Yedid, co‑owner of Advanced Resources LLC, which operated in South Dakota as Patriot Warranty.

“This company did not live up to the promises it made to customers,” Jackley said. “Customers were left with expenses they should not have received.”

Hundreds of Complaints, Two South Dakota Victims Identified

The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division received 419 complaints about Patriot Warranty dating back to 2021. Among those, investigators identified two South Dakota victims.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, Yedid and co‑owner Charles Seruya registered Advanced Resources LLC with the South Dakota Secretary of State in 2019, then filed a “Doing Business As” certificate in 2020 for Patriot Warranty. The company marketed online auto and motorcycle warranties, with most customers located out of state — particularly in California — though some South Dakotans were affected.

Refunds Promised, But Never Delivered

Consumers attempting to cancel their contracts were told they needed to submit a notarized intent to cancel. Phone calls, messages, and emails went unanswered. The company also listed a false Sioux Falls address on its website and application forms.

When customers did reach someone at Patriot Warranty, they were repeatedly told refund checks were on the way — only to be given new dates and excuses. The checks never arrived.

Advanced Resources LLC was administratively dissolved in December 2020 for failing to file an annual report, but the owners continued operating Patriot Warranty despite the dissolution.

Legal Action and Court Rulings

South Dakota’s Consumer Protection Division filed an action in April 2026. Seruya settled earlier in the case, paying $948.33 to a South Dakota victim and agreeing to a permanent injunction barring him from similar business activity in the state.

Yedid did not respond to the complaint. A Hughes County Court granted a permanent injunction and awarded civil penalties and attorney’s fees against him on July 15, 2026.

Funds to Support Consumer Protection

Money collected from the civil penalties will support future consumer protection investigations and provide restitution for the remaining South Dakota victim.
