Two Injured in Brookings County Crash on SD Highway 30 Near I-29

Northeast Radio SD News – Brookings County, SD - On June 25, 2026, at 1:42 PM, emergency responders were called to a two-vehicle injury collision on SD Hwy 30 near Interstate 29.

According to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, a 2014 Jeep Cherokee driven by 65-year-old Tamara Johnson of Brookings entered SD Hwy 30 from Interstate 29. As the Jeep pulled onto the highway, it collided with a 2022 Kia Telluride that was traveling westbound. The Kia was driven by 32-year-old Morgan Brown, also of Brookings.

Brown had two passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash: a 13-year-old and a 1.5-year-old. Authorities report that Johnson and the 13-year-old passenger were transported from the scene by ambulance to Brookings Hospital with unknown injuries.

The crash resulted in an estimated $22,400 in damage to the Jeep Cherokee and $27,982 in damage to the Kia Telluride.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, White Fire Department, Brookings Fire Department, White Ambulance, and Brookings Ambulance. The incident remains under active investigation by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

County-Wide Alcohol Compliance Checks

In a separate update, Investigations Sergeant Thomas Chester of the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office released the results of recent alcohol compliance checks.

·         The checks were conducted on June 26, 2026, at businesses throughout Brookings County that maintain alcohol sales.

·         A total of 21 businesses were evaluated during this operation.

·         Of those checked, 20 businesses successfully passed the compliance check by refusing to serve alcohol to an underage buyer.

·         One business, identified as The Ridge, failed the compliance check.

The Sheriff’s Office noted that during their previous round of compliance checks conducted in March 2026, all tested businesses successfully passed.
