Tyson Miller’s 238 Yards Lead Watertown Past Spearfish Into Class 11AA Football Semifinals

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Junior running back Tyson Miller rushed for 238 yards and two touchdowns as four different Watertown players reached the end zone to power the No. 3 seed Arrows past No. 6 seed Spearfish 35-13 in the Class 11AA state football quarterfinals on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, at Allen Mitchell Field.


Miller opened scoring for Watertown with a rushing touchdown with 6:31 left in the first quarter, giving the Arrows a 7-0 lead. Hunter Peterson extended Watertown’s advantage to 14-0 at the 8:55 mark of the second quarter.


Spearfish answered in the second quarter when Graham Hughes scored a rushing touchdown, cutting the deficit to 14-7. Watertown responded before halftime as Kye Paulson reached the end zone to restore a two-score lead heading into the break.


Watertown controlled the ground game in the second half. Miller recorded his second rushing touchdown of the night at the 5:52 mark of the third quarter, and Holton Schutt added a rushing touchdown with 7:25 remaining in the fourth quarter to stretch the lead to 35-7.


Spearfish added a late score with 4:40 left in the fourth quarter when quarterback Thomas Hughes connected with Karsen Seyer for a touchdown pass. Note: Local box scores and the South Dakota High School Activities Association scoreboard list the final score as either 35-13 or 35-14 depending on the final extra-point conversion record.

The quarterfinal victory marks Watertown’s second win over Spearfish at Allen Mitchell Field during the 2026 campaign. In the season opener on Aug. 28, 2026, the Arrows held off the Spartans for a 26-20 victory. Spearfish concludes its season with a 5-5 overall record.


With the win, Watertown improves to 7-3 overall and advances to the Class 11AA state semifinals on Friday, Nov. 6, 2026. The Arrows will travel to face No. 2 seed Yankton, a team Watertown defeated 42-14 during the regular season on Sept. 25, 2026.
