Vehicle Fire Near Hamlin School Temporarily Closes County Road 446

Northeast Radio SD News – Hayti, SD - Emergency crews responded Friday morning to a vehicle fire just south of Hamlin School, according to the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office.


The call came in at 8:13 a.m. for a vehicle on fire near the intersection of 446th Avenue and 190th Street, roughly two miles south of the school. A juvenile driver was on the way to school when they noticed something was wrong with the vehicle and pulled over. Moments later, the vehicle's lower portion caught fire, igniting a small patch of nearby grass.


The driver safely exited the vehicle and was not injured.

The Lake Norden Fire Department and Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. County Road 446 was temporarily closed for 20 to 30 minutes while crews extinguished the fire and ensured the area was safe.


The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
