Veteran Golfers Association Border Battle Coming to Watertown July 11–12

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The Veteran Golfers Association (VGA), a national nonprofit dedicated to enriching the lives of veterans and their families through the camaraderie of golf, will bring one of its signature regional events to Watertown this month. The annual North Dakota–South Dakota Border Battle, styled after the Ryder Cup format, will be held July 11–12 at Cattail Crossing Golf Course.

The event brings together veterans, active‑duty service members, retired personnel, combat‑wounded veterans, and family members from both states for two days of competitive play and community‑building.

Founded in 2014, the VGA hosts more than 1,000 local tournaments nationwide each year, culminating in a national championship. The organization’s mission is to support veterans and their families by providing opportunities to compete, socialize, and stay active.

“The Veteran Golfers Association is dedicated to enriching the lives of Veterans and their family members through the camaraderie and sportsmanship of golf,” the brochure states.

VGA programs emphasize integrity, respect, perseverance, and family involvement. Members can participate in local league play, regional tournaments, national qualifiers, and special events such as the Armed Forces Cup and Liberty Cup.

“The VGA develops programs that allow our members to compete, socialize, and remain physically active through the game of golf.”

Following the Border Battle, the South Dakota chapter will host an additional event on July 13 at Prairie Winds Golf Course for current members and prospective members interested in learning more about the organization.

Each state operates its own chapter, with state directors organizing tournaments throughout the season to bring veterans and families together. Membership includes access to tournaments, a free golf handicap index, a Nine Line T‑shirt, and discounts on select golf equipment.

Organizers say they hope the Watertown events help raise awareness of the VGA’s mission and encourage more veterans and families to get involved.
