Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The City of Watertown has announced upcoming traffic pattern changes for its 2026 street construction projects, specifically impacting the Neighborhood Reconstruction Project on 5th Avenue N.

Starting on Thursday, September 3, the current intersection access will shift. The intersection of N Maple St, which is currently open, will close to traffic. Simultaneously, the currently closed N Broadway St intersection will reopen so crews can complete final paving. After the paving is finished, closures at these two intersections may alternate as crews complete the remaining dirt and landscaping work.

To help maintain traffic flow, contractors will keep cross streets open whenever possible. Drivers traveling near the construction zones are asked to follow all posted signage and directions provided by flaggers. Officials note that traffic routes will continue to change as work progresses, and project timing is subject to shift based on weather or other unforeseen conditions.

Residents with questions regarding the construction or traffic updates are encouraged to contact the Engineering Division at (605) 882-6202.
