Early Morning Rollover and Fire Sends Driver to Hospital

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Watertown Fire Rescue responded to a rollover vehicle crash and fire on 14th Avenue NW early this morning after a pickup truck entered a construction zone.


The incident occurred at approximately 12:00 a.m. Watertown Fire Rescue dispatched Battalion 1, Engine 4, and Medic 4 to the scene following reports that a pickup had collided with construction machinery in the designated work area.


According to the fire department’s release, the impact caused the vehicle to roll into a ditch, where it subsequently caught fire.


A Codington County Sheriff’s Deputy was the first to arrive on the scene. Demonstrating quick action, the deputy successfully pulled the driver from the burning vehicle just before the arrival of fire crews.


Upon arrival, Watertown Fire Rescue Engine 4 quickly extinguished the flames. Medic 4 immediately began providing patient care to the injured driver. The individual was then brought to Prairie Lakes Hospital with serious injuries.


The Watertown Police Department and the South Dakota Highway Patrol assisted Watertown Fire Rescue and the Codington County Sheriff’s Office at the scene of the crash.
