Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - As the world’s attention prepares to turn toward the 2026 Winter Olympics, the Watertown Curling Club is offering local residents a chance to step onto the ice and experience the sport firsthand.
The club will host a free “Learn to Curl” event on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Prairie Lakes Ice Arena. The session will take place on the Driscoll Rink and is open to the public. Organizers emphasize that no prior experience is necessary to participate.
“Curling is always fun to watch, especially during the Winter Olympics,” the club shared in a statement, noting the proximity of the event to the Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina, which officially begin on February 6.
Community Instruction and League Play
The introductory clinic is designed to teach the fundamentals of the game, including delivery and sweeping techniques. While the event is free, participants are asked to register in advance through the club’s official website.
Following the introductory event, the Watertown Curling Club will launch its next competitive season. The upcoming league is scheduled to run on Sunday evenings from February 15 through March 22, 2026. League play will begin each Sunday at 6:15 p.m. and conclude at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The cost for the six-week league is $100 per person or $400 for a whole four-person team. Club officials recommend that new players attend the free February 1 clinic before signing up for league play.
