Watertown Figure Skating Club Skates to Major Success, Qualifies More for Nationals

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The Watertown Figure Skating Club (WFSC) returned from the Granite City Classic in St. Cloud, Minnesota, with an impressive medal haul and three new qualifications for the 2026 National Showcase competition. Competing against a deep field of skaters from across the country, the ten Advanced Team skaters from Watertown delivered an exceptional series of performances this past weekend.
The WFSC athletes secured a remarkable total of 14 gold, 14 silver, and 11 bronze medals, in addition to numerous top-seven placements, demonstrating their dedication and skill on the ice.
National Showcase Team Grows
A key highlight of the competition was the qualification of three additional skaters for the prestigious 2026 National Showcase, which will be held in Denver, Colorado.
· Dorothy Peterson (Lyrical Pop Showcase)
· Elin Gossen (Choreographic Showcase and Comedic Showcase)
· Brooklyn Bloom (Character Showcase)
These three new qualifiers will join previously qualified teammates Elizabeth Reither, Madison Johnson, Abigail Reeves, and Sarah Hahn to represent the WFSC on the national stage in 2026.
Coach Taylor Johnson commended the team's performance and maturity. "They continue to show incredible growth—not just in their skills and performances, but in their sportsmanship and maturity," Johnson stated. "Watching them lift each other up, celebrate one another’s successes, and stay committed to their goals is truly heartwarming—it’s exactly what the WFSC stands for."
Top Placements & Upcoming Events
Notable results from the Granite City Classic include:
· Abigail Reeves: Earned gold in Freeskate and Choreographic Showcase, plus silver in Character and Emotional Showcase.
· Dasia Woertink: Took home three gold medals in Emotional Showcase, Lyrical Pop Showcase, and Choreographic Showcase.
· Madison Johnson: Secured three gold medals in Compulsory, Spins, Jumps, and Comedic Showcase.
· Audrey Mack: Won gold in Spins and bronze in Compulsory and Jumps.
The Watertown Figure Skating Club's busy season continues with a trip north for the 14th Annual Holiday Classic Competition in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on November 21–22, 2025. Following that, the club will host its own event, the 16th Annual WFSC Skate Games Compete USA Competition, at the Prairie Lakes Ice Arena in Watertown on December 12–13, 2025.
