Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - On Monday afternoon, Watertown Fire Rescue (WFR) successfully extinguished a hay field fire near Waverly, South Dakota.

The call was reported just before 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15. WFR dispatched two brush trucks and a Tender to the scene, where they discovered a three-to-four-acre fire burning in the middle of a section.

Prior to WFR’s arrival, the property owner had already contained most of the fire using a loader tractor. Fire officials confirmed that no nearby exposures or structures were at risk. Fire crews assisted the owner by rolling out multiple burning hay bales to ensure the fire was fully extinguished, then thoroughly sprayed the area with water to prevent rekindling.

WFR personnel remained on scene for approximately two hours before handing control back to the owner.
