Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Watertown Fire Rescue responded Wednesday evening to a reported oven fire on the 3400 block of 16th Avenue SW, according to a media release from the department.
Crews were dispatched at 7:15 PM and arrived to find smoke inside the home and a fire actively burning inside the oven. Firefighters made entry and quickly extinguished the flames using a portable fire extinguisher.
After the fire was out, responders used a positive-pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke from the residence and improve air quality for the occupants.
During their safety check, firefighters discovered the home did not have functioning smoke detectors. Crews installed two new smoke detectors before leaving the scene to ensure the family had basic fire‑safety protection in place.
Fire Rescue personnel remained on scene for approximately 20 minutes. No injuries were reported.
Watertown Fire Rescue reminds residents that working smoke detectors are one of the most effective ways to prevent injury and loss during a home fire.
