Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Watertown High School is looking to the future of its volleyball program with a familiar face at the helm. Activities Director Craig Boyens announced the hiring of Havyn Heinz as the new Head Volleyball Coach for the Arrows, pending formal school board approval.
Heinz comes to the program with a decorated pedigree in both playing and coaching. A graduate of Wayne State College, she was a key contributor to a Wildcat team that reached a #1 national ranking and compiled a dominant $61-6$ record over two seasons.
Back-to-back NSIC Conference championships, regional titles, and a prestigious Elite Eight appearance marked her collegiate career. On the court, she was a defensive anchor, recording 524 digs while also competing for the beach volleyball squad.
Deep Roots and Proven Experience
The appointment marks a “full circle” moment for Heinz, who has deep ties to the Watertown community. She is the granddaughter of former Watertown Activities Director Harvey Hammrich.
“I am so grateful for this opportunity to teach and coach in Watertown,” Heinz said. “Watertown has always had a special spot in my heart, and this is a full-circle moment!”
Beyond her time as a student-athlete, Heinz has spent the last two seasons sharpening her coaching skills as a graduate assistant at Dakota Wesleyan University. Her resume also includes coaching stints with:
· Kusler Klinics
· Nebraska D-League Volleyball
· Various youth camps across the region
A New Chapter for Arrows Volleyball
Activities Director Craig Boyens expressed high confidence in the new hire, citing her background as a winner.
“We are excited to welcome Havyn to Watertown,” Boyens stated. “Her championship experience, energy, and passion for developing student-athletes make her a great fit for our program.”
Heinz will take over a program that has seen consistent competitive play in Class AA, most recently finishing the 2025 season with a $22-11$ record. The Arrows community now looks forward to seeing Heinz translate her elite-level experience into success for the next generation of Watertown athletes.
