Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The Watertown Hockey Association (WHA) recently celebrated a milestone in community spirit and remembrance, presenting a $2,500 gift to the Christopher (Chris) Rieb Fund. The donation, presented to Dr. Mark and Susan Rieb on behalf of their late son’s fund, is held by the Watertown Area Community Foundation.
The funds were raised through the inaugural Chris Rieb Memorial Mites Tournament. The event proved to be a resounding success, welcoming 24 teams to Watertown for a weekend dedicated to competition and community, and to honoring the memory of a young man who shared a deep love for the sport.
Organizers noted that the tournament served a dual purpose: creating a meaningful way to honor Chris while bringing families together through hockey. The weekend’s atmosphere combined the excitement of the game with a poignant sense of remembrance, strengthening the bonds within the Watertown hockey community.
The success of the inaugural event has already sparked plans for the future. Organizers have announced that the tournament is set to become a lasting tradition in Watertown, with the 2027 event already scheduled for January.
