Watertown Mosquito Spraying Scheduled Thursday Night (8/6) in Northwest and Northeast Neighborhoods

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The City of Watertown’s Mosquito Control Program will conduct targeted mosquito spraying on Thursday night, August 6, after monitoring confirmed that adult mosquito levels have reached the threshold requiring treatment.

According to a public service announcement issued August 5, spraying will take place in two areas of the city:

·         Northwest Watertown: North of 3rd Avenue North and west of Broadway

·         Northeast Watertown: North of 3rd Avenue North and east of Broadway

Weather permitting, crews will begin spraying after 9:00 p.m. Thursday in the designated neighborhoods.

The city notes that while the adulticide used in the mosquito control program is considered safe, residents may experience varying levels of sensitivity. Officials recommend several precautionary steps during and shortly after spraying:

·         Remain indoors whenever possible while spraying is underway.

·         Keep children and pets inside during spraying and for about an hour afterward.

·         Rinse homegrown fruits and vegetables thoroughly before cooking or eating.

The Mosquito Control Program continues routine monitoring throughout the summer and will announce additional spraying as needed.
