Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The City of Watertown's Mosquito Control Program issued a public service announcement today, June 24, 2026, confirming that the local adult mosquito population has reached sufficient levels to trigger targeted spraying.
Weather conditions permitting, the mosquito spraying operations will commence tonight, Wednesday, June 24, 2026, after 9:00 p.m.
Affected Neighborhoods
Tonight's designated spray zone covers Southwest Watertown. Specifically, the trucks will be operating in areas:
· South of 3rd Avenue North
· West of Broadway
Recommended Safety Precautions
City officials state that the adulticide utilized by the mosquito control program is a fairly safe material. However, because individual sensitivities to the spray can vary, residents in the affected sector are encouraged to exercise the following common-sense safety measures:
· Stay Inside: If possible, remain indoors whenever the spraying is actively taking place in your neighborhood.
· Protect Dependents: Keep children and pets indoors during the spraying process, and keep them inside for about an hour after the trucks have passed.
· Wash Produce: Thoroughly rinse any homegrown fruits and vegetables with water before cooking or eating them.
