Watertown Mosquito Spraying Set Tuesday Night for East Lake, Lake Kampeska Area (8/4/26)

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The City of Watertown will conduct mosquito spraying Tuesday night after officials determined that adult mosquito counts have reached the threshold for treatment in the East Lake area.

According to a public service announcement from the city, the designated spray zone includes the east side of Lake Kampeska — from Kampeska Lodge to Prairie Winds Golf Club — along with the Derby Downs and Prairie Haven neighborhoods.

Weather permitting, spraying will begin after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4.

City officials note that while the mosquito adulticide used in Watertown’s program is considered safe, residents in the affected area are encouraged to follow several precautionary steps during and shortly after spraying:

·         Remain indoors whenever possible while spraying is underway.

·         Keep children and pets inside during spraying and for about an hour afterward.

·         Rinse homegrown fruits and vegetables thoroughly before cooking or eating.

The city’s mosquito control program conducts spraying only when population levels reach established thresholds and conditions allow for effective treatment.
