Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Northern Prairie Arts is inviting the public to explore their creative voice later this fall with a hands‑on poetry class led by South Dakota Poet Laureate Bruce Roseland. The event, titled “Your Life in Lines: An Introduction to Free Verse Poetry,” will be held Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Lake Area Technical College Archway Glass Classroom.

Roseland, the eighth Poet Laureate of South Dakota, describes the session as a “funshop” rather than a traditional workshop. Participants will learn how to transform memories, experiences, people, places, and meaningful moments into poetry using the flexibility of free verse. “Find your creative voice & tell your stories,” Roseland says. “Let’s inspire each other!

A Class for All Experience Levels

No prior writing experience is required, and the class is open to ages 12 and older. Attendees will receive a blank notebook to begin writing during the session. Organizers say the environment will be welcoming and encouraging, giving participants the chance to discover how everyday experiences can become powerful poetry through imagery, rhythm, sound, and emotion.
