Watertown Police Launch Citywide "Are You OK?" Mental Health Campaign

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The Watertown Police Department (WPD) announced the launch of a new citywide mental health and wellness initiative today, titled the “Are You OK?” awareness campaign.

The WPD's effort emphasizes the importance of mental health and self-care, starting internally with city employees and eventually expanding to encompass the greater Watertown area and surrounding communities.

According to the department, the campaign serves as a critical reminder that mental health is a daily concern and that how individuals address their wellness impacts every facet of their lives—from professional performance to family relationships. Prioritizing both individual and community wellness is cited as essential for cultivating a strong, resilient Watertown.

As part of the initiative, the Watertown Police Department is providing its staff with QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training. This program is intended to equip staff members with the skills to support others while also helping them prioritize their own well-being.

The WPD noted that a simple conversation can be life-changing, stating that all it may take is asking the three simple words: “Are you OK?”

Residents are encouraged to engage with the campaign by looking for the new “Are You OK?” logo around town. The WPD asks that the logo prompt community members to pause, ask themselves and those around them this critical question, and truly listen to the answer.

For those who need help or are unsure where to seek support, the Watertown Police Department asks that citizens reach out to them directly or call 988 for immediate assistance.

The department’s message to the community is clear: "It's OK to not be OK, just don’t stay that way."
