Watertown Police Release Report on Car-Bicycle Crash

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Watertown Police have released additional details regarding a vehicle and bicycle collision that occurred Thursday morning at the intersection of 11th Street NE and 1st Avenue NE. The incident was first reported to the Watertown 911 Communications Center at approximately 7:43 a.m.


According to the report, a 2017 Jeep Wrangler, operated by a 43-year-old Watertown female, was traveling eastbound on 1st Avenue NE. At the same time, a 36-year-old Watertown female on a bicycle was traveling south on the sidewalk along the east side of 11th Street NE. Both the driver and the bicyclist stated they came to a stop to wait for a pedestrian to clear the crosswalk.


Once the pedestrian was out of the way, the Jeep proceeded east into the intersection as the bicyclist proceeded south across 1st Avenue NE. The collision occurred in the crosswalk area on the east side of the intersection.


The bicycle operator received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Prairie Lakes Hospital Emergency Room. The Jeep sustained minor front-end damage. The Watertown Police Department was assisted at the scene by Watertown Fire/Rescue.


The crash remains under investigation.
