Watertown School Board Re-Elects Iverson President, Sets 2027 Election Date

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The Watertown School Board held its annual organizational meeting Monday night, swearing in a returning member, selecting board leadership for the 2026–27 year, and formally setting meeting formats and election dates for the coming fiscal cycle.
Board Adjourns Regular Meeting, Opens Organizational Session
Following the conclusion of the regular July meeting, the board voted to adjourn at 6:40 p.m.
· Motion: Rossman
· Second: Raml
· Result: Motion carried
Board President John Iverson then appointed Business Manager Heidi Clausen as temporary chair to conduct the organizational meeting, as required by district procedure.
Rossman Sworn In for New Term
Clausen administered the Oath of Office to Board Member Roshal Rossman, who read the oath aloud for the public:
“I… do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of South Dakota, and that I will faithfully and impartially… perform all the duties of my said office of school board member in accordance with the laws.”
Rossman also declared a conflict of interest for the fiscal year, noting her employment with First Premier Bank, one of the district’s designated financial depositories.
Board Approves Agenda and Open Meetings Review
The board approved the organizational meeting agenda:
· Motion: Moulton
· Second: Iverson
Members also approved the annual review of “Conducting the Public’s Business in Public,” the state‑required open meetings brochure:
· Motion: Lohr
· Second: Moulton
Iverson Re‑Elected Board President
Clausen opened nominations for board president.
· Nomination: Lohr nominated John Iverson to continue serving.
· No other nominations were offered.
The board then voted to cease nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Iverson:
· Motion: Raml
· Second: Rossman
· Result: Motion carried
Iverson was declared Chairman of the Watertown School Board for 2026–27 and resumed leadership of the meeting.
Lohr Re‑Elected Vice President
Iverson called for nominations for vice president.
· Nomination: Iverson nominated Kari Lohr to continue in the role.
· No other nominations were offered.
A motion was made to cease nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Lohr:
· Result: Motion carried
Lohr was declared Vice President for 2026–27.
Board Sets Meeting Schedule for 2026–27
Under Item 3.1, the board approved continuing its standard meeting format:
· Second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m.
· Motion: Rossman
· Second: Raml
· Result: Motion carried
School Board Election Set for June 8, 2027
The board then moved to Item 3.2, setting the official date for the next school board election:
· June 8, 2027
