Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The Watertown City Council unanimously approved a resolution tonight to accept a significant grant that will substantially reduce the local funding needed for the Calvin Trade Area Lift Station and Sanitary Wastewater Project.

City Manager Alan Stager presented the item, explaining that the resolution allows the city to finalize the application for the South Dakota Local Infrastructure Improvement Program grant.

Grant Reduces Local Burden by $500,000

The grant, which totals $500,000, is designated for the Calvin Trade Area infrastructure project. This project has a total cost of approximately $3.7 million, with $2.8 million already covered by a U.S. Economic Development Grant.

The new state grant will reduce the remaining local contribution by $500,000. This saving is split equally among the four local entities contributing to the project:

·        City of Watertown

·        Watertown Municipal Utilities

·        Codington County

·        Watertown Development Company

Stager confirmed that the grant will reduce each party’s required contribution by $125,000.

Following a motion and a second, the City Council approved the resolution with a unanimous voice vote. The successful grant application will reduce the financial burden for all local partners invested in opening the Calvin Industrial Park for future commercial development.
