Northeast Radio SD News – Brookings County, SD - The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a threatening anonymous email reported earlier this week by the Sioux Valley School District.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a staff member received the email on Monday, May 4, and notified the district’s School Resource Officer at 2:47 p.m. The message was immediately turned over to investigators.
Detectives determined that the email originated from an IP address associated with a Google account created in April 2026 in the Nashville, Tennessee, area. No additional identifying information was found. The email included the statement: “sh -- is going to happen on May 7.”
After a full review, investigators concluded there was no credible threat to students, staff, or school facilities. However, out of caution, the Sheriff’s Office and Sioux Valley School District increased law enforcement and staff presence throughout Thursday and into the evening.
The district has remained in communication with parents as the situation developed.
The incident remains under investigation. Additional information will be released if it becomes available, the Sheriff’s Office said.
