Northeast Radio SD News – From guiding residents through the building process to responding to emergencies, connecting readers with books, and managing vital landfill operations, the City of Watertown relies on a diverse team to keep the community running smoothly every day.
In the latest installment of its ongoing “#WatertownWorks” series, the City is shining a spotlight on four dedicated employees who go above and beyond to serve the residents of Watertown. This week’s feature honors Alyssa Halling, Cameron Mack, Brittney Graham, and Tim Bush.
Alyssa Halling – Permit Technician, Community Development Division
Joining the City last August, Alyssa Halling is often the first point of contact for residents, contractors, and developers looking to kickstart a new project. Halling prides herself on helping applications move seamlessly through the building process and is particularly proud of recent improvements made to the City’s online permitting platform. Looking ahead, she hopes to continue streamlining the process to make it even easier for citizens.
When she isn’t helping residents close out older permits, Halling lives an incredibly active lifestyle. She enjoys riding motorcycles with her husband and plays nearly every sport, including pickleball, bowling, darts, and figure skating. A local business co-owner and the membership chair for the Dakota Prairies chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), her local Watertown favorites include Oh Baby O’s, Page’s Place, and Dempsey’s. If she could have any superpower, Halling says she would choose teleportation so she could travel instantly after work without using PTO.
Cameron Mack – Lieutenant, Fire Rescue
Cameron “Cam” Mack has been a staple at Watertown Fire Rescue since 2013. As a Lieutenant, Mack leads training for his shift and serves as a company officer on emergency scenes. For Mack, the job is all about the people; he considers his fellow firefighters to be family and says he wouldn’t trade his crew for anything. Looking back on his career, his favorite moment remains getting the initial call offering him the job.
Outside the firehouse, Mack enjoys golfing with his wife, Kelsey. An avid lunch-goer, his favorite spots include Willy’s, the Tip-Top in Kranzburg, and Ship's Inn in Castlewood. Mack’s desire to help others extends to his hypothetical superpower of choice: the ability to heal people, especially children. Fun fact: Mack has successfully climbed to the top of Devil’s Tower.
Brittney Graham – Circulation Library Specialist, Regional Library
For nearly two years, Brittney Graham has been a welcoming face during the evening hours at the Watertown Regional Library. Graham helps patrons find resources, assists with technology, and organizes the library’s writing programs and book club. Passionate about connecting people with stories, she is especially proud of starting the library’s writing club and fostering a sense of community for local writers.
A creative at heart, Graham spends her free time reading sci-fi, fantasy, and poetry, and is currently penning her own kaiju-inspired fantasy novel. She calls local independent shop DDR Books an absolute “treasure.” If she had a superpower, she would choose shapeshifting or flying. In a surprising twist from her literary career, Graham was certified in Auto Collision Repair during high school.
Tim Bush – Landfill Supervisor/Foreman, Solid Waste Division
A veteran city employee, Tim Bush, has worked for Watertown for more than 18 years. Currently serving as the Landfill Supervisor, Bush oversees daily operations, coordinates staff schedules, and manages equipment maintenance for the Solid Waste Division.
Much like Lieutenant Mack, Bush says the best part of his job is the people he works with, describing his crew as an extended family. On the operational side, he is a big fan of the facility’s compost turner, which has drastically improved efficiency on the compost pad.
When he is off the clock, Bush trades heavy machinery for trail riding with horses and restoring Jeeps. He loves to barbecue in his free time, and when he isn’t cooking for himself, his favorite local restaurant is Dempsey’s.
The #WatertownWorks series is an ongoing initiative by the City of Watertown to recognize the hard work and dedication of its municipal employees. The City extends its deepest thanks to Alyssa, Cameron, Brittney, Tim, and all staff members for their continued service to the community.
